New Braille and Large Print Starbucks Menus

Have You Heard? Starbucks Has New Braille & Large Print Menus!

From what I’ve seen Starbucks has a good history of treating their blind and visually impaired customers with the respect they deserve. Back in 2008 they had a braille and large print guide produced, giving patrons with low vision the ability to read the menu and order independently.

Back to the here & now; a smile was brought to my face the other day when I found out Starbucks is at it again. The newly updated braille and large print Starbucks menus will be available upon request starting this month! Great news for anyone whose vision is less-than-perfect.

With over 87,000 beverage combinations available at Starbucks it’s easy to understand how a visually impaired person can benefit from the menus. With that many combos I would need a guide myself and I’m fully sighted! That is if I ever ordered anything else besides my normal Venti Iced Mocha Latte.

In my opinion these revised braille and large print menus are a huge step forward for the “Kings of Coffee” in their continued efforts to satisfy all of their customers, not just the ones who are sighted. Starbucks is stepping up for all the customers whose needs get ignored all too often & they are setting the example for other quick-serve stores to follow in their footsteps.

To my knowledge McDonalds is the only other national quick-serve chain who provide braille menus at all of their locations. Kudos to the Golden Arches!

In September of 2011 Starbucks also released a new card in accordance with National Disability Awareness Month featuring the coffee houses’ name in embossed braille right on the front. I was so excited to hear about these that I ran up to my local store right away and purchased a few to give out to friends and family; keeping one for myself of course.

As you can see, I love Starbucks coffee and all they have done to make their brand accessible to those who are blind or have low vision. Now ALL coffee lovers will be aware of new tasty choices like the Salted Caramel Mocha & Pumpkin Spiced Latte, not just those who are sighted.

Major kudos to Starbucks for working to transcribe, produce and distribute the new menus around the country so we can all enjoy.

Do other quick-serve restaurants in your area make braille and large print menus available to you? If not, suggest they visit BrailleWorks.com and we’ll show them how easy & affordable it can be.
