Braille printing FAQ
What document formats can you accept for Braille printing?
When submitting your files for Braille printing, the best file types include MS Word®, Text documents (.rtf or .txt), PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint. Files submitted electronically in MS Word® or Text format are less labor intensive and, therefore, less expensive to transcribe.
How long does it take to create Braille documents?
No two jobs are alike and depend on the file type and complexity. For small or repetitive documents, we typically deliver within 3 business days. For larger, custom documents, timelines can extend up to 20 business days. We will work with you to develop an acceptable timeline. Learn more about Braille printing turnaround times.
How much does Braille transcription cost?
Braille transcription fees vary depending on the complexity of the project and the binding option you choose. Documents that include tables, charts, or graphs are considered to be more complex while regular text documents are much simpler. We seek to keep the cost of Braille transcription services economical for your business because we appreciate how valuable braille is to its readers.
What languages are available?
Braille Works transcribes materials in Latin-based languages, including English and Spanish.
What kind of paper is used for Braille printing?
We use 8 ½ x 11 inch 65 lb. white cover stock paper. This “holds” the dots and makes the braille last longer and much easier to read. When requested, your Braille document can include protective plastic covers.
Accessible Document Remediation Services
We also provide a service for converting documents to a “screen reader-friendly” format. This process provides customers with blindness or low vision an accessible PDF document that they can read independently on their computer.
